John & Donna Barsotti - Owners

John & Donna started Common Plea Catering in 1990, as an expansion of their successful restaurant operation. The Barsotti’s have been in the hospitality industry for over 45 years. Their uncompromised commitment to customer service and food quality has been a part of the catering culture from the beginning. John has been an important member of the restaurant and catering industry, serving as the president and board member of the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association, a board member of the International Catering Association, as well as various advisory boards in the food industry, including the Allegheny County Health Department and the Culinary Council of the Art Institute. 

The Common Plea family has been awarded multiple local and national awards, including a three-peat win in the Catersource Tabletop Design Competition, winning the coveted “Tutera’s Pick,” and Best in Show in 2012, 2013, & 2014. Donna and John both agree that the Common Plea team is made up of some of the most dedicated, hard-working and talented people in the catering & events industry.

Martin Vecellio - Vice President and Senior Event Planner

Martin has been with the Common Plea for over 30 years. For the past six years Martin has spent his time between the Common Plea satellite office inside Heinz Hall, H J Heinz History Center and the most recent acquired venue, The WQED Studio on 5th. Martin’s creative talents reach far beyond events in Pittsburgh. He’s been a driving force behind the multiple national and international awards the CPC team has won for tabletop and buffet designs throughout the years. In 2014, he was awarded with the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association 2013 Member Employee of the Year Award.
Maggie Gooch
Maggie Gooch

Maggie Nicholson - Director of Events

Maggie has been with the company since 2006. She enjoys all aspects of her job, but especially loves the fact that every day is different. She likes working with her clients to make sure that every detail is taken care of, and that each event is special and memorable for every guest. Maggie is always eager to collaborate with other event professionals to learn new ideas and trends in the events industry. In her spare time, Maggie loves to travel, read, and spend quality time with family and friends.

Barbara Kocinski - Chief Financial Officer

Barb has been a member of the Common Plea Team for over 40 years. She handles all financial operations for the catering office, and is always willing to jump in and help with anything from kitchen prep to event set up. A graduate of University of Pittsburgh, Barb loves traveling to Texas to spend time with her two grandchildren.

Nicholas Marchuk

Nicholas Marchuk - Operations Manager

Nick began his career with Common Plea Catering in 2004 as Technical Advisor. Today, he serves as the “brains” behind all daily operations, from logistics and scheduling, to building banquet displays and props, to troubleshooting any issues that may come up from day to day. Prior to joining the CPC team, Nick started a successful commercial laundry, installing all equipment as well as managing the business and supervising all personnel for 32 years.

Marlow Mathews - The Prop Master

Marlow started with Common Plea Catering in 1994. He assists all personnel with party props, deliveries, food, and whatever else is necessary for successful events. Marlow has the uncanny ability to know where every prop is as well as where it has to be for every function. The next time you see the Common Plea truck in town, be sure to wave, because it’s probably Marlow driving!

Stacy Stoller - Event Planner

Stacy joined the CPC family in 2012. Besides being able to work in some of Pittsburgh’s finest venues, she really loves being able to meet and work with new people. When Stacy isn’t gallivanting around Pittsburgh with her friends trying out all of the new hot spots, she enjoys spending her time volunteering with senior citizens.

Denise Mostella - Event Planner

Denise has been with the Common Plea since 2013. Denise has been working in the special events industry for over 7 years and loves the fact that her job takes her to so many different and unique venues in the greater Pittsburgh area. Meeting new contacts and working with long time clients each year keeps the job exciting and always evolving for her. In her spare time she likes to check out new restaurants and bars around the city. She is also an avid runner who tries to run in all of her favorite 5K races throughout the year.

Terri started with the Common Plea in 2014. She has been in the industry for over 14 years and enjoys the uniqueness of each event. She loves the professionalism of the CPC staff and how they still find a way to have fun. When not working Terri enjoys hiking and spending time with her daughter.

Alise Watson - Event Planner

Alise joined the Common Plea team in early 2016 and has spent the last ten years working as an Event Planner & Chef in North Carolina and Boston before returning to Pittsburgh. Her knowledge of cuisine combined with her passion for design are key ingredients for the many successful events she has planned over the years. Some of Alise’s favorite aspects of the job are working with talented vendors, staying educated on culinary trends and training staff to ensure a perfect client experience. In her free time, Alise enjoys running in Pittsburgh’s public parks, hiking and traveling and entertaining family and friends.

Gina D’Amico - Mozart Room Manager

Gina joined the Common Plea in 2015 after working at the Mattress Factory Museum as the Events Manager for 8 years. She has been in the service industry for over 30 years in Fort Lauderdale, New York City and Pittsburgh areas. Gina’s favorite part of her job is working together as a team in a positive environment and making the customers happy. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, yoga, cooking, gardening and most importantly being with family.
Adam Gooch

Adam Gooch - Corporate Executive Chef

Chef Adam L. Gooch graduated from the Pennsylvania Institute of Culinary Arts in Pittsburgh, PA and quickly became a rising star in the industry. At 25, Chef Gooch was a nominee for the American Culinary Federation Chef of the Year Award and was running 7 different restaurants located in the Pittsburgh International Airport. Since then, he has won numerous awards and accolades for his food and culinary inventiveness and has been published many times in local and national industry publications. After spending the past four years as Executive Chef of a top 20 catering company in Washington, D.C., Chef Gooch is excited to be back in Pittsburgh, where his culinary career began.

Continuing to expand upon his knowledge and exceed his diner’s expectations, Chef Adam has done field studies in France at la Cordon Blue and Le Ritz Escoffier as well as here in the U.S. at the Culinary Institute of America. He has served as a Board Member for the American Culinary Federation and is currently the Culinary Council President of the International Caterers Association. Chef Gooch travels to various cities across the country to present and educate his peers on new and exciting culinary trends for the Catersource Corporation.

In his spare time, Adam enjoys ice carving, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

John has been with the Common Plea family for over twenty-five years. He is very outgoing and passionate about his craft, and loves sharing his enthusiasm with his culinary team members. When Chef John takes his hat and apron off, he loves to “slow life down” a little and spend time with his son Joncarlo. Work is never too far away though, as John loves to try new recipes out at home, including his homemade protein bars, which everyone at CPC loves to sample!

Quinn Marshall – Purchaser

Quinn is a new member to the Common Plea Catering team. She brings 17 years of experience as a pastry chef and has held that position over the years with Whole Foods and USA Gourmet. She was raised in Pittsburgh but also lived in Colorado for a few years. Her favorite part of being a pastry chef is seeing the smile a sweet pastry brings to someone. When not baking sweet treats, Quinn juggles her job with the responsibilities and activities involved in raising 5 children.

Amanda Horn - Beverage Director

When Amanda moved from NYC to Pittsburgh a little more than a decade ago, she could tell right away that the food scene was bubbling with excitement. Before joining the Common Plea team in 2015, she was a professional ballet dancer and spent 10 years with the Big Burrito Restaurant Group where, after several positions, she became the Corporate Beverage Director. Amanda holds a degree from the Court of Master Sommeliers and thinks wine should play a role in every party and every meal. When she isn’t designing cocktails and events she is a devoted mom to her pup, Peanut, and loves spending time cooking, dancing, and laughing with her family, especially her nephew, Nathaniel.

Ashley has been with the Common Plea since 2011. Ashley’s favorite part of the work day is deciding with her coworkers what’s for lunch. When she’s not working Ashley enjoys watching sporting events, painting, and photography.

Victoria started with the Common Plea in 2015. She is a recent graduate that is trying to gain as much hands on experience as possible in the food and beverage industry. When she is not working for Common Plea, she enjoys traveling to create unique and memorable experiences while meeting new people, eating many cuisines, seeing new cities and being immersed in cultures throughout the country and world.

Paige began her career with Common Plea in 2015 as a wedding and special events server and has advanced to working with corporate clients. She loves the many facets of her job, especially the various people and locations she visits daily. In her free time, Paige enjoys seeing the world through urban exploring and hiking local and national parks. When not traveling, she is an avid history buff and trivia night champion.
